Magic Milk

A couple weeks ago I went to go see my friend, and favourite pastry chef, Maggie play drums. Luckily there is some video footage of the show, so you can all understand why I felt totally out of place.
Magic Milk lay waste to a VFW hall. from GONZO CHICAGO on Vimeo.

I learned that you can smoke inside at the VFW Hall, and you don't need to be 21 to get in. So my experience was being surrounded by 16 year olds who were all smoking 3 cigarettes in each hand.

I totally loved Magic Milk, and the band that played before them Big Color, but seriously I am getting too old for this shit. I've done it before and it was way more fun when I was a teenager. I used to hang out on the Downtown East Side when I was 19 (which was the legal drinking age) with a bunch of 16 year olds and we'd go see friends' shitty bands play.  I thought it was the most fun thing anyone could do ever. But now the most fun thing ever is...wow I don't know the answer to that.
What is the  most fun thing ever at 27?

  1. I don't know...I'm 28, and the reason I film all of this shit is because it's still REALLY fun (to me at least). Come now, go see Bad Drugs (they play their last show saturday at ebottle), Running, Heavy Times, Unmanned Ship, Mayor Daley, Bomb Banks, Toupee, etc etc etc and tell me they aren't good. I realized your harkening to your friends "shitty bands" isn't a knock on our scene, I'm just saying. There's has always been, and always will be young, stupid, yelling, retarded kids at shows. But the funny thing is, I see 45 year olds at some of these types of shows, too...having a blast. SO.....man I've been up too late....uh....I guess just, don't worry about it and have fun! XO. - jy

    1. John, I still love going to shows. I'm at 2 a week at least, and it is invigorating to see people actually enjoying themselves (instead of talking through entire sets like the jerks who attend shows at Schuba's), but it's not the same feeling as when I was 19 doing it. I honestly don't want to be 45 at the VFW seeing punk bands. Doesn't mean I will stop loving punk music, but I'd want my kids to be there smoking and drinking illegally, not me.
